Jaleen Grove

Jaleen Grove came to RISD's Illustration Dept as an Assistant Professor during the 2018-2019 academic year to teach History of Illustration and required studio classes.  Lucky for us, she is an associate editor of the 592 - page textbook History of Illustration (2018).  Grove, a native Canadian, has a BFA in Studio Practice from Emily Carr University, a diploma in Visual Communications, a MA in Communication & Culture from Ryerson University, and a Ph.D. in Art History and Criticism at Stony Brook University.  Whew!  Before joining us here in sunny New England, Jaleen spend some of her professional time between 2016 - 2018 at Washington University as a Postdoctoral Fellow in Popular Print.  A writer who often appears in books and journals, the trade magazine Communication Arts, has just released her essay on present and future issues in Illustration that was illustrated with a double -page spread

"The Illustration Game", a satirical survey of American Illustration 1959-2019, peppered with hilarious-in-retrospect quotes of what major players of the "game" have said about the industry in years past.  Jaleen has taken to Providence and we have taken to her!  Take a look!

Congratulations to Joohyung Seo, Cecilia Cao, and Owen Rival for being awarded a Royal Drawing School Residency at the Dumfries House in Scotland during Summer 2019!! Owen will be traveling to Scotland and Accepting!
