Congrats to Julie Benbassat for being recognized by 3x3 The Magazine for Contemporary Illustration in their International Illustration Student Show No. 16 for both a silver medal for Material Creature Collection and an honorable 

mention for her To Winter comic page. 3x3's mission is to promote the importance, vitality, viability and uniqueness of using illustration since 2003.  Winners are featured in the printed annual and online and receive a complimentary copy of the 3x3 International Illustration digital annual which includes images from both the student and professional shows. Great Job!

The MoCCA Arts Festival is a 2-day multimedia event, Manhattan’s largest independent comics, cartoon and animation festival, drawing over 7,000 attendees each year. With 400 exhibiting artists displaying their work, award-winning honorees speaking about their careers and artistic processes and other featured artists conducting workshops, lectures and film screenings, our Festival mission accelerates the advancement of the Society’s broader mission to serve as Manhattan’s singular cultural institution promoting all genres of illustration through exhibitions, programs and art education. The 2019 MoCCAArts Festival will take place April 6-7th, 2019 at Metropolitan West in New York City with programming mere steps away at Ink48 (653 11th Ave).

5th . ANNUAL STUDENT ARTIST BOOK CONTEST WINNER!!!

Congrats to RISD Illustration Dept's Clarisse Ankasa who won the 5th Annual Student Artist's Book Contest this year with "TellTales": a three part horror book that relates to real life stories about women committing crimes you don't expect. Clarisse completed the graphic narrative for Jaleen Grove's class "Word/Image/Ideas" and it took first place over 60 other submissions. It is now a new addition to the RISD Special Collections.

FEBRUARY 23RD some of our Fall 2018 Picture and Word  students spent time at the Providence Athenaeum Children's Library reading their original work to young library go-ers!

Chen's children's book, Hot Pot Night was recently acquired by Alyssa Pusey of Charlesbridge Publishing Company.  The book, created in Judy Sue Goodwin- Sturges and April Prince - Jones's course Picture & Word, is due to come out in stores in 2019.

 

Aside from working on personal projects, Vincent, a senior, plans to take a well deserved break and focus on personal growth in the near future.
